Ketamine Assisted Pychotherapy for Couples

Steps to Ensure KAP-C Is Right for You

Each of the following steps are designed to ensure that KAP for couples is good match for you and your unique needs. At any stage, if it’s determined that KAP is not recommended, we will provide referrals and make recommendations.

  1. Initial Phone Consultation: Become reacquainted and discuss how you are currently working (or struggling) together with your cycle and attachment needs.

  2. Complete Intake Materials.

  3. Referral to a Medical Ketamine Prescriber: The prescriber will conduct a thorough evaluation of your medical history to ensure KAP is safe for you. Contraindications primarily involve uncontrolled hypertension and cardiac complications. If necessary, the prescriber will collaborate with your primary care physician. The medical provider will call in a prescription to a pharmacy, which will mail the medication to you.

Once it’s determined that KAP-C is appropriate and safe for you, we will advance to the KAP-C therapy process.
KAP-C Therapy Process

Preparation Sessions

  • One-hour couple intake to review current relationship patterns and articulate goals for the KAP session.

  • A 30-minute individual session with each partner to ensure trust and safety are established.

  • One additional couple session to prepare for the medicine session, address any concerns, and answer questions.

Medicine Session Upon arrival, there will be a brief review of goals and intentions for the KAP-C session. One partner will take the medicine while the other serves as a witness. The medicine acts as a powerful “co-therapist,” helping partners soften defenses, embrace vulnerability, and deepen connections in ways previously unavailable. Although the full effects of the medicine usually subside after about 45 minutes-1 hour, we allow each person 90 minutes to take make the most of the opportunities that ketamine provides. After a short break, the other partner will have their session. The session concludes with reflecting upon both people’s experiences, and highlighting positive changes and gains.

Please Note: Neither partner will be safe to drive afterward, so transportation must be arranged. We recommend a quiet re-entry at home, postponing ordinary demands and social engagements.

Integration Session This experience is maximized with a focus on integration. Ketamine’s neuroplasticity effect—akin to “brain fertilizer”—supports the formation of new neural pathways. The integration session translates insights from your KAP-C session into daily practices that promote enduring change.

Pricing

While KAP-C is a significant investment, it enables dialogue between the conscious and unconscious in ways unavailable through traditional talk therapy, helping couples achieve goals that have felt out of reach.

To launch our KAP-C program, we are offering special discounted pricing for the first 10 couples. This opportunity includes co-facilitation by Kathy and Alan. Couples beyond the initial 10 are welcome to work with either Kathy or Alan through their private practices at standard fees for KAP-C.

  • Therapy services for this initial offering: $1,000 per couple (includes preparation, medicine, and integration sessions). This is a total of seven hours of therapy, three of which both Alan and Kathy will be present.

  • Physician evaluation and prescription fees: Approximately $450 per individual.

  • Medicine costs:  Approximately $50 per person.

Following the initial KAP-C sessions, enough medication will remain for approximately four additional sessions per person. Participants can choose to utilize this remaining medicine for individual sessions, additional couple sessions, or a combination of the two. These sessions would be scheduled individually with either Kathy or Alan at their regular KAP fees.

Dates

Initial phone consultations are available immediately, and we hope to begin scheduling couples for this offering in March 2025. The medicine sessions will only be available on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

Additional Considerations

Certain circumstances may require careful consideration before participating in KAP-C. Significant uncertainty or ambivalence about continuing the relationship should be addressed beforehand to ensure a supportive process. A history of verbal, emotional, or physical violence, or active substance use, will be thoughtfully evaluated to prioritize safety and well-being. For those with a history of addiction, the medical provider will assess your situation to ensure safe treatment. Additionally, those with a history of psychotic disorders may require alternative therapeutic approaches better suited to their needs.
